We’d recommend that you service your electric powerchair with your dealership every year. To optimise the performance and for your your safety, certain elements of the powerchair should be checked regularly.
We can service your electric wheelchair on site or it can taken to one of our mobility service and repair centres at Bromsgrove, Wythall Birmingham or Sansome Walk in Worcester. We are always nearby and so if you want us to drop by and take a look at your powerchair just get in touch.
Lots of customers looking for new mobility powerchairs ask this question and users may be unaware that they are categorised by law as a type of vehicle and in turn must abide by certain rules.
In terms of buying a new powered wheelchair what you need will depend on where you want to use it and/or how far you need to travel. Depending on its functionality, a mobility scooter or powered wheelchair is either Class 2 or Class 3.
Class 2 powerchairs have a maximum speed of 4 mph and cannot be used on the road, while Class 3 scooters have a maximum speed of 4 mph off the road, and 8 mph on the road. Certain powerchairs with lights and indicators can also be classed as Class 3 and are to be registered with the DVLA but still cannot be used on the road.
Providing the person buying the powerchair is registered disabled or has a recognised long term illness or medical condition then, VAT relief can be applied.
It is also acceptable for a friend or relative to buy the powerchair on behalf of the person using the equipment (providing the conditions are met). You can also obtain VAT relief to related mobility products and services such as mattresses, servicing and spare parts.
All of our powerchairs are on display in either our Sanders Road Bromsgrove Mobility Centre, Becketts Farm Mobility Branch in Birmingham or Worcester City Centre Mobility showrooms where you can book an appointment to see one of our rehab product specialists.
We are well known to all of the major healthcare compaines and experts in our field with over 20 years of knowledge and experience in powerchairs. We are fully trained and certified by all of the key industry manufacturers such as Sunrise Medical, Handicare, Invacare and Quantum and will be an appointed dealer for their products should you wish to contact them directly.
We also offer you the opportunity to try your electric powerchair before purchasing, either at home or in a care home or sheltered accomodation. Get in touch to discuss your requirements with our team.
All of our showrooms have ample parking and disabled toilets and facilities and we stock all the major brands such as Invacare, Quantum and Sunrise Medical.
The Birmingham Mobility Centre is at Becketts Farm in Wythall just off J3 M42. The Worcester Mobility Centre is at the old post office sorting house in the centre of town at the Bradbury Centre.
Both mobility centres are easily found and have lots of parking. Our Bromsgrove Mobility Centre is located behind Kwik Fit on Sanders Road and has a large showroom and great customer parking.
Prior to your visit you can fill in one of our assessment forms to give you some good questions to think about and these can be found on our contact page.
On a powerchair the controls are fixed to the arm of the electric chair and can be fitted on the left or the right hand side. Attendant contol (known as dual control) which means that somebody can walk behind the chair and take control of the speed and the steering.
We are able to adjust the sensitivity of the controls on the powerchair and can reduce it or speed it up according to the users needs and requirements. This can be done prior to Magbility delivering the powerchair to the user or after a few weeks of use as the customer gets used to the chair and knows a little more about what they require as the optimum powerchair setting.
Our rehab team are fully trained in how to assess a user who wishes to customise a powerchair for their own needs.
In general terms, the more premium chairs tend to lend themselves to be more configurable in terms of seating, footplate, sizing and colours.
When choosing a powerchair we often advise for customers to try and think for the future (future proof) and if they feel that at some point they may need to customise the powerchair then we always advise to go with a modular powerchair at the beginning and we can adjust the chair at a later date (seating options/battery/speed etc).
Electric wheelchairs are ideal for those people who have limited physical strength and/or limited mobility. Electric powered wheelchairs offer the user independence and freedom but it is particularly important to determine in which environments the wheelchair will predominantly be used, as some powerchairs perform better indoors and other models are designed for mostly outdoors.
Travel powerchairs – sometimes known as travel electric chairs – will fold easily (ideal for storage or putting into the boot of a car) and use lithium powered batteries combined with lightweight aluminium frames.
These are ideal for days out and holidays. Some of the larger wheeled travel chairs are able to go over rougher terrain such as park paths and National Trust type locations.
The latest models tend to have built in attendant controls which is really useful for longer days out and can weigh as little as 15kg, which makes it a realistic prospect for people with limited mobility to lift into a car.
You are more than welcome to come and try our range of travel powerchairs at one of our showrooms and have a test drive around our ample car parks and try putting them in the car for yourself.
These powerchairs are suited to outdoor terrain but can be used indoors occasionally. Magbility offer a range to suit all budgets from basic outdoor powerchairs to prescriptive, custom built models.
Customised models mean better seating options and back/lumber adjustments on the electric chair. Many of the models have the benefit of electric tilting for reclining and can offer pressure relief to users who are prone to sitting in the powerchairs for long periods of time.
With outdoor chairs it’s all about terrain and the mid-wheel, front-wheel and rear-wheel drive bases. We provide a choice of designs for more stability and better control to suit the user.
The electric chairs are predominantly for indoors but certain models offer an excellent cross over to the outdoors and perform both indoors and out.
Where space is a premium the latest indoor chairs provide all the control but with a narrow frame which is ideal for tight turns and getting around the home. Many models offer the latest in lift and rise technology so users can reach cupboards and use work surfaces proficiently.
